A thicknesser fitted with a spiral cutter block with Tungsten Carbide cutters for a smoother finish and noticeably reduced noise levels.
The PT330S has a 13”x 6” capacity allowing a wide variety of stock to be dimensioned by its 1800w (2.4hp) drive motor.
The thicknessing height is quickly set using a large adjusting handle and reading from a scale, marked in both metric and imperial measurements. This setting can be physically secured using the cutting depth locking handle to ensure repeatability of the cutting depth. The timber is fed through the cutters by two rubber coated drive rollers. The cutter block rotates at 9000rpm leaving a smooth unmarked finish. A cut of up to 3mm deep can be made, when more than 3mm needs to be removed, simply use the quick action depth stop to ensure final dimension is not exceeded. Then make multiple passes to obtain the desired depth.
At the heart of the machine is a spiral cutter block with 2 rows of spur cutters, arranged so that they cut in a shearing action, rather than straight. This type of cutter block is more expensive than a conventional set up, but does offer several advantages. The more use the machine gets – the more these advantages pay off.
Advantages of spiral cutters over conventional knives:
Shearing Cut = Better finish. Expect a smoother finish in softwood, hardwood and difficult grain.
Low Sound Levels = Less noise by up to 50%. Each blade is moving less air and taking a smaller cut.
More Knives = Reduced energy consumption. Each cut uses less energy, overall saving can be 30%.
TC (Tungsten carbide) Cutters = longer cutter life, up to 10 times compared to HSS. Each cutter can be rotated when worn.
Less Maintenance = Quick and easy to change out 1 or 2 cutters after a chip.
The cutter block also features a neat spindle lock to stop the block turning when undoing the cutter screws.
When not in use both the infeed and outfeed tables fold up to make a more compact unit and the solid comfortable lifting handles aid convenient storage solutions.
A nice feature is the addition of a cable tidy to keep the power lead to the motor tangle free. This together with the 100mm and 65mm dust ports will ensure a safer working environment.
Supplied with carrying handles, T-bar Torx key, 5 spare cutters & screws, 100mm & 63mm diameter extraction outlet, 2.5m power cable and UK 3 pin plug.
It is essential to use dust extraction with a thicknesser. The extractor removes all the dust and chips which will otherwise build up, causing a blockage and eventually damage to the machine. Using an extractor also increases the life of the cutters. Our model DC50 is an ideal extraction companion.
